Cute Little Creation...

Just sharing a cute little creation that I picked up at a fundraising market last weekend...a vintage bottle brush tree inside a darling old rose creamer.  I love the glittery Merry Christmas message attached by old book pages...

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Basement Guest Room - My Mom's Room

My Mom stays with us every fall.  I am lucky that she can
come and stay with us for so long...2.5 months this time!
She has a bedroom in our basement and a nice bathroom
too.  Every year I do something a little bit different in her
room...here are a few pictures of what her room looks
like this time around.

I love this old metal bed.  It has a lovely medallion on the
headboard and footboard.  Some people would probably
have painted it straight away, but I liked the way it looked
this way so I left it.  The screen behind the bed is from
Target and it is a Simply Shabby Chic piece that was
available years ago.  Why is all of the great Shabby Chic
stuff discontinued?  The green rose throw pillows are
also SSC as well and yes, they are discontinued!

Just a closer view...

I love the details on this bed!

Here is another view of the room...the closet is behind those curtains.  The white chair in the corner is a chair
(one of a pair) that I purchased at an auction years ago
for $40 for the pair.  They are Ballard Designs chairs
and I looked up the retail price of them...quite crazy!

This is an old needlepoint that I framed in a beautiful
ornate gold frame that I had kicking around in my stash.
I love the way it turned out.  I have a mixture of cottage,
French and Shabby Chic items in this room.

One of my favorite pieces is this old claw foot table.  It is
shabby and worn and I just adore it!  The dresser is another
auction piece...there is another matching dresser on
the other wall.  I was forbidden to paint them.  Does your
husband ever do that?!  (*_*)

This lamp shade and base is also from Simply Shabby
Chic and they are long since discontinued.  I always include a picture of my Dad on her bedside table.  We all miss
him so much!

One of my favorite statues wearing her little tiara...

An old corday lamp and lamp shade.  I just propped up
the frame against the wall to give the lamp a background.
The candles are all flameless so Mom doesn't have to worry
about setting the basement on fire!  Ha ha!

I have had this little floral settee for years now.  It was
upstairs in my front room for a long time, but when I
found a new French settee, I moved it downstairs to the
basement.  I works perfectly in her room and it has roller
wheels so it is easy to move.

Isn't it cute!

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my Mom's home away
from home.  She really loves it down there in the basement.  It gives her privacy and it's very comfortable.  I have a little portable fireplace that she uses as well if it gets too
cool for her down there.

My next post will be pictures of her bathroom.
It really turned out pretty!

Manni Details

Today I thought that I would share a few pictures with you
of my mannequin.  She sits in my front room beside my big
rose painting.  I love her!  I tend not to put a lot of clothes
on her, but I thought that I would add this cute pink fringed
skirt for something different.

The skirt is actually a party table fringe that I purchased at
one of my favorite stores, Dear Lizzie, in Highland, UT.
Okay, it is my FAVORITE store!

I just cut a piece off the garland and pinned it around the
waist.  I had the other bits and pieces on her before so I
just had to put them back in place.  I don't know why, but
I like my mannequin more simple these days without a lot
of clothing...who knew?!

I love this pink tissue paper fringe.  It's so flirty and fun!
I also have pink silk ribbon, white rose covered ribbon,
a big burlap bow and a cute cameo necklace on her.

I had no idea what I was doing when I made this bow.  I
am not too adept at creating bows, but this one just
seemed to work for me.  It gives it some added texture
which I don't have a lot of in my home.  I need more!

Finally, this cross adds some pretty bling to the look.
I am quite into bling these days it seems.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I have been missing in
action on my blog these days, but it's summer and I
have a really hard time blogging in the summer.  I
hope to be back to a more regular routine in the fall!

Love,

Musical Chairs

Last week I had the chance to go junking with a
good friend of mine.  We found the best stuff and
had such a wonderful day!  At one of our favorite
antique malls, we came across an amazing pink
needlepoint chair!  It was everything I adore in a
chair and it was like it was made for my front room!
Alas, the price was just abit too high for me and
I walked away without it.

On our very last stop at one of the thrift stores
that we frequent (and with only 20 minutes to
go until closing), I came across this adorable little
French Provincial chair.  It was only $8.00.  Yes,
you read that right!  It jumped into my cart
pretty quickly when I saw the price.  I got a cute
little chair after all!

Well this story takes another little twist and turn...

I was speaking to my Mom on the phone that night
and described my thrift shop find with her and I
also described that glorious needlepoint chair that
was in the antique mall.  She thought that it
sounded really pretty...we talked about it for
some time.  We get off on these tangents you see...

The next morning the phone rang quite early and
the caller id announced that it was my Mom.  I
thought that it was kind of strange (she lives in
Canada) seeing as how we had talked for some
time the night before.  Right away I could tell by
the sound of her voice that something was up!
She said...I want you to go on a caper for me!
Mom and I are always going on capers when we
are together!  (*_*)  She told me that she wanted
me to go down to the antique mall and pick up
that beautiful pink french chair!  Of course I told
her that I couldn't and that it just wasn't in the
cards for me at that particular time.

She told me that I most certainly could go and get
it because she had called down to the antique mall
and had purchased it for me as a present!  What???
My Mom is always up to something!  She had an old
flyer of all of the antique stores and sales that she
had brought home with her, looked up the number
to the antique mall and phoned them first thing in
the morning and purchased the chair for me!

That is just the kind of person my Mom is.  She is
always trying to do things for me and buy things
for me and I'm always saying NO!  I guess she
decided to totally bypass me this time and leave
out the middle man...that would be me!

Little does she know that I had already purchased
some gorgeous china for her from an Etsy shop in
Canada (Jennelise Rose) and it is on the way to
her.  She should be receiving it today and I did
that before I even told her about the chair.

That will serve her right!  (*_*)

Oh, and the $8.00 chair?  It is already downstairs
in the guest bedroom that is decorated with
French Provincial furniture!

My New Spring Pillow...

As you can see, I haven't blogged in awhile.  In
fact, it's been a little over a month.  I am patiently
waiting for spring...it comes, it goes, last night it
snowed and now it's all melted again.  I am itching
to get going at some spring projects, but because I
don't have a warm place to spray paint or do things
like that...I wait and wait and wait!

In the meantime, I thought I would share with you
this sweet pillow that I found at Hobby Lobby last
week.  They had an entire line of spring decor items
with this cute graphic on the front.  I don't buy a lot
of "cutsey" items for my home anymore (I have so
many already!), but this one tugged at me and I
thought that it would look sweet in the center of
my settee for spring.

I hope that you are all enjoying spring-like weather
where you are.  I'm sure it will come to Utah soon
for more than a few days at a time, but in the
meantime...we wait!

Enjoy your day!

New Treasures Today!

Hello everyone!

I have finally gotten into gear and listed some
new treasures in my Etsy shop and on my web
site.  I've had a few people ask me what the
difference is between the two!  Well, nothing
really...basically I just have two selling venues.
The prices are the same, although I will say
that by purchasing on my web site I do not
have to pay the Etsy final value fees.  That
is about it!  Now that I've cleared that up
for you...here are a few new treasures that
I have just listed.  If anything strikes your
fancy, just stop on over and see me!  Shop
links are in the sidebar!

Love this antique yardlong print!

This French lady print is gorgeous!

This porcelain bisque vanity set is so pretty!

I love vintage Italian florentine!

Another yardlong print...this one is by Mary Hart
and it's abit worn.  I called it "shabby decayed".
I love it!

Everyone loves a sparkling chandelier!

Have a great day!

Reunited...and it feels so good!

Today I thought that I would share a cute story
with you all...the case of the reunited shades!

A little over a year ago I fell in love with this
adorable lampshade on Etsy and purchased it
from a lovely seller than I have known for years.
The delicate, floppy ruffles and pretty lace
totally sold me along with the fact that it was
the most pretty shade of pale pink!  I could
not wait to make it mine!

A year passed and it was still sitting on my shelf.
I needed to find the right lamp for it and it had
taken a back seat to all of my other projects.
I decided, after searching around my city, to visit
Etsy again to see if I could find a cute little lamp.

As I was scouring through the pages, I did a double
take and clicked back one page.  Umm...there was
my lampshade.  What the heck?  I contacted the
seller, who lived in Canada, and it turns out that
she had made the lampshade almost two years
ago, but now she was going to sell it.  She had sold
its mate on Etsy to someone about a year and
a half ago and yes, you guessed it, that was my
first pink shade that I purchased.  So...between
two sellers (and a few years!), both of these
adorable lampshades are back together
again...just as they should be!

Now I guess I need to find two lamps!

Let the fun begin!

Lighten Up!

Now when you saw the title of this post, I imagine
that most of you thought that it was going to be
about lightening up your decor for spring.  In a
sense it is, but not in the way you think!

I rarely get very personal on my blog and that is
just a choice for me, but today I wanted to share
something with you...my new motto, which is
Don't take yourself, or your decorating too seriously!

Recently someone made me feel bad about my decor.
I know, it's silly and I rarely care what other people
think, but this just got to me for some reason.  It
is probably because I pour my heart and soul into
my home and I actually love what it looks like.
I don't follow trends (or it takes me year to and
by then they are really old!) and I don't care if it
is to everyone's liking...I like it!

If you follow trends, hey, that's great!  I have
nothing against that at all.  In fact, I think it's
pretty cool that people can change and adapt like
that.  I'm just not one of those people!

The burlap obsession is not for me, the industrial
chic thing is not for me and the all white decor
(which I love!) is just not for me either.  I love
color and I love adding silly, whimsical objects
to my existing pieces - as you may notice above!

Do what's right for you and your home will shine!
Your personality will come out in everything you
touch and you won't have "cookie cutter"
surroundings to boot!  Do what YOU love and
do what makes YOU feel good!  There is no right
and there is no wrong and there is no reason to
have your home a certain way just because it's
the popular thing to do.

In other words, lighten up and have fun!

Wow, kind of personal...  (*_*)

Recycle Your Old Calendar!

For my first post of the new year I thought that
I would share a very simple project with you.
It's a new year and you have a new calendar on
your wall...now what do you do with the old
one?  It's too pretty to throw away so why not
convert it into simple artwork for your wall!

All you need to do is take apart your old
calendar and trim off any excess from the edges.
For the frames, I used simple, inexpensive glass
clip frames from Hobby Lobby.  You can obviously
use any frame, but I wanted to feature the
artwork more than the frames so I used these.

I hung six of these gorgeous pictures in my main
bathroom in my hall and they look amazing!  You
may recognize the calendar from Jo-Anne of
Vintage Rose Collection.  It is so beautiful!

Now, while we are on the topic, I would like to
remind you that this is only okay if you are
recycling YOUR calendar.  It is not okay to take
photographs such as this and recopy them for
any reason.  That is copyright infringement. If
it is for your own use, then a-okay.  Any
copying or reselling is unethical and takes away
from the integrity of the artist.  We all know
how hard artists and photographers work to
make something unique and beautiful!

So if you have a pretty, 2013 calendar still
hanging around you might want to try this!

Christmas Pretties In Pink

Hello again ~ today I am sharing just a few pics of
my pink and cream decorations on top of my tv stand.

I took my large, heavy concrete urn from my coffee table
and used it as the centerpiece.  I love how all of these
pretty pastels work together effortlessly...

I have had this little metal sleigh for a few years...it's a
thrift store find.  I filled the inside with vintage hand
painted pink balls along with vintage white glittered
drum and bell ornaments.

On the other side of the urn is a large glass cloche
filled with Christmas ornaments...nothing fancy here,
but I love the way it looks!  The rose topiary trees on
each side are from Target.  I purchased them
several years ago and I still love them!

That's it!  It doesn't take a lot to make a festive
display.  I hope you enjoyed viewing mine!
