Artful Blogging Magazine

The Summer 2009 issue of Artful Blogging magazine is due to hit the newsstands on May 1st and I've got a little tidbit of information for you...Stacy's Shabby Shoppe is FEATURED in this issue! How exciting! I'm so pleased that the editors of this fabulous publication contacted me to be included in this lovely issue. You will find my article and photographs near the back so drop me a line and let me know what you think. I am a real fan of this publication. The photographs and stories are so inspiring and every issue is always jam packed with creative ideas! It's too bad it only comes out once every quarter. I could read it every month!

You can find this publication at most Barnes & Nobles stores...at least that is where I have had the best luck in finding it. You can also order it directly from Stampington. com. Just click the link on my sidebar to take you directly to their web site. I hope you enjoy this gorgeous issue. I received my preview copy the other day and it is absolutely fantastic! Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo

Sweet "D.I." Find...

Those of you who know me, know that I love shopping at the "D.I". Short for Deseret Industries, this is a chain of the absolute best thrift stores in Utah owned and operated by the LDS church. There are numerous locations in Utah as well as in a few other western states and they are by far my favorite place to find a great treasure!

I found this wonderful little cabinet the other day while I walking the aisles and quickly fell in love with it. My first instinct was that it was the top of a hutch. I'm still not sure, but I am now leaning toward it being an actual little floor cabinet due to its height.

This cabinet is obviously from the 1960's or 1970's. It has that "look" about it and often during that time period pieces of furniture were painted with this speckled finish. My first thought was, "okay, this is hideous, I have to paint it". But after awhile the finish grew on me and because I have cream and light yellow in my front room, it blends in nicely and looks very pretty alongside my other pieces. I know...some of you probably still think it's hideous this way and it wouldn't have even made it through the door without some yummy cream or white paint! But I've decided to keep it this way for now. I just love the details on this...little floral carvings, a flat back with glass on both angled sides and glass on the front, a light inside and a great glass shelf in the middle perfect for holding my Lefton luncheon set. The glass panel on the right opens up as a door.

It's fun to find a piece of furniture that I love and it seems that I haven't run across one in quite some time. Patience is all I can say and at $35, I am willing to wait! Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo

What If...

"what if you slept?

and what if,

in your sleep

you dreamed?

and what if,

in your dream,

you went to heaven

and there plucked

a strange and

beautiful flower?

and what if,

when you awoke,

you had the flower in

your hand?

ah!!!

what then?"

~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge

This has to be one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. So romantic, so mystical, just so incredibly lovely. I was perusing the latest copy of Somerset Life this evening and came across this lovely poem and article by Madelyn Mulvaney. She speaks about her love for poetry and about a cherished trip to the beach...alone. If you have never purchased this magazine before you are truly missing out. Actually, it is more like a book than a magazine with each page to be savored and lingered over like a prized piece of exquisite chocolate...or perhaps with a prized piece of exquisite chocolate! Each issue is filled with inspirational stories by artful women across the country and around the world. The photographs that accompany the articles are worth it themselves and I am continually in awe of the talent of these amateur women photographers. Most of them could have promising careers with their eloquent writing skills and beautiful photography. I urge you to pick up a copy of Somerset Life or any one of their other many inspirational publications. You will be transported into a world of art, couture, journaling, photography and many other worthwhile pastimes that will lift your spirits, boost your creativity and make you dream. Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo

Every Birthday Is A Gift...

The older I get, the more I truly believe in the title of this post. Think about it...every birthday really is a gift. As women, most of us seem to complain about getting older. We're not as "young, pretty, in shape, energetic as we once were"...the list seems to go on and on. Think about it though...what if you didn't have a birthday? If you didn't have a birthday you simply wouldn't be here! So there you have it, that is a positive way to look at it! Birthdays really aren't that bad even if they mean you have a few more wrinkles and your cute little butt isn't quite so cute or even so little anymore! LOL! I have lost my share of loved ones over the past few years and I hear about so many people out there being sick before their time. It's time we all appreciate each and every day that we have here on this beautiful, beautiful earth! (*_*)

It was my birthday on April 7th and this year it was wonderful! Some years just seem to go by rathered unnoticed, but this year I received so many cards, phone calls, a few presents here and there and Wade even cooked a lovely dinner for me and our extended family. Even a boss that I used to work for about 20 years ago called me up to say hello...that was quite unexpected, but very nice!

My sister-in-law surprised me a few days after my birthday by taking me up to Park City for the night. You know, the place where all of the celebs haunt during the Sundance Film Festival. We didn't see any celebs (personally, who cares!), but we sure had a nice time just getting out of the valley and taking the 40 minute drive up into the mountains. It's always nice to get out of the city! We did a little shopping and I thought I'd share my little treasures with you ...

Here is a lovely little box of lip balm that I picked up at Splendor Beauty. Yes, I'll admit it, I wanted to go into Splendor just for the pretty pink and chocolate brown bags, but this lip balm called "Let Them Eat Cake" by Tokyo Milk was calling my name. Look at the adorable Marie Antoinette on the side of the box. Love it!

I recently ran out of perfume and I am so tired of paying $60 and up for nice deparment store perfume. I wandered into Dress Barn and picked up these two pretty fragrances called "Really Truly Pretty" and "Really Truly Fresh". They are lovely smelling and at $14 each, they are a real bargain!

This Lollia hand creme was also picked up at Splendor. I love these products and they are a little more pricey, but so beautiful and the packaging is gorgeous! Lollia makes perfume, candles, bath salts, hand lotions and other pretty cosmetics.

The actual bottle of hand creme is just as nice as the box!

We visited a beading store where you can make your own jewelry. My sis-in-law made herself a pretty bracelet and I made this sweet necklace complete with pink hearts, green beads, silver ladybugs and an adorable pendant in the center. I love the way it turned out! I had never done this before and I can see how it could quickly become addicting!

The last treasure I purchased was this adorable little set of Marie Antoinette style note cards. The little box folded out to reveal the cards, envelopes and matching stickers. Pretty!

It was so nice to get away even if it was just for one night! A huge thank you to all of my friends and family for making my birthday so extra special this year! Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo

Addicted To Polyvore.com!

friendship
friendship by anebe on Polyvore.com

I am absolutely smitten with this fabulous web site Polyvore.com. This beautiful site is a very special and creative way to pass the time and I can promise you that after only a few minutes, you will be addicted too! Basically, shared pictures are collected from photo storage sites from all over the web and then in turn you can make collages out of thousands and thousands of pictures. Any keyword that you can think of you can type in and then come up with hundreds of possibilities. People then post their collages for you to view or share on your blog. There are even contests for members (membership is free!). Fashion collages are popular, but there are thousands of themes you can create using the keywords of your choice. We vintage gals can find vintage lady pictures, chandeliers, teacups and saucers, roses by the gallon, you name it! Give it a try when you have a few minutes...it will probably quickly turn into a few hours! Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo

My Easter Parade...

I just love to decorate for Easter so I thought I would share a few of my Easter vignettes with you. Our front entrance is my favorite spot to decorate and I love these two large Easter bunnies with their baskets of eggs. They were a Costco purchase from several years ago. Shredded pastel paper and pastel easter eggs are sprinkled throughout my display and the large pink speckled egg is a favorite thrift shop find. It is made out of ceramic and has ruffled edges on the bottom. My "Bliss" garland is a new treasure too...love it! Have a safe and Happy Easter! Until next time, ~Stacy~ xo
